Terms of Service

Last updated: August 2026

These Terms govern your use of Legacy Vault. By creating an account or contributing to a memorial, you agree to these terms. We aim to keep this a respectful, lasting space for remembrance, so please read them carefully.

1. Your Account & Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of digital consent in your country) to use Legacy Vault. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity under your account.

2. User Content Ownership

You retain ownership of the memories, photos, stories, messages, and any other content you contribute to Legacy Vault (“User Content”). Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of your User Content to Legacy Vault.

You confirm that you have the right to share the User Content you post, and that doing so does not violate the rights of any other person.

  • You grant Legacy Vault a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute your User Content solely to operate and preserve the memorial you contributed to.
  • This licence continues for as long as the User Content remains on the platform, and you may request removal of your own contributions at any time.
  • Legacy Vault does not claim ownership of your stories, photos, or recordings.

3. Code of Conduct

Legacy Vault is a space for honouring and remembering loved ones. To protect that space, you agree not to post content that is harassing, hateful, threatening, or otherwise harmful.

  • No harassment, bullying, or intimidation of any person.
  • No hate speech, including slurs or attacks based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or nationality.
  • No threats of violence or self-harm.
  • No sexual explicit content involving minors, or any content that exploits or harms others.
  • No spam, scams, or misleading content.
  • No posting private or identifying information about others without consent.
  • No content that infringes another person's copyright or intellectual property.

Violations may result in content removal, loss of guardianship, or account suspension. You may report any contribution that you believe breaks this code using the Report option beside it.

4. Fair Use & Storage Policy

To ensure platform stability, data security, and high performance for everyone, every memorial page created under our standard Legacy free tier is allocated a maximum storage limit of 1 gigabyte (GB).

  • Storage Boundaries: Each standard-tier memorial is capped at 1 GB of uploaded media to preserve fast loading and reliable preservation across all accounts.
  • Modification Limits: The platform reserves the right to optimise, compress, or resize uploaded images automatically to preserve server efficiency.
  • Administrative Limits: Standard tier accounts are permitted a maximum of 2 guardians to manage a single memorial page.
  • Breach of Fair Use: If an account attempts to bypass these storage boundaries through automated scripts, repetitive creation of duplicate pages, or any form of system abuse, the platform reserves the absolute right to suspend or terminate the account immediately without notice.

5. Moderation & Guardianship

Each memorial is cared for by one or more guardians who manage contributions and settings. Guardians may approve, hide, or remove content on their memorial, and may choose whether contributions are published immediately or held for review.

Legacy Vault may also remove content that violates these Terms or applicable law, whether or not a guardian has acted.

6. Guardian Successor Protocol

To ensure a memorial is never left without care, guardians may nominate successors — trusted people who will take over stewardship when the current guardian can no longer continue.

  • A primary guardian may nominate one or more successors and provide each a verification code to claim the role.
  • When a successor claims guardianship (verifying their identity with the code), they gain administrative rights over the memorial.
  • If no successor is nominated and a guardian becomes unable to continue, family members or Legacy Vault may appoint a new primary guardian to preserve the memorial.
  • Guardianship is a trust role, not ownership of the memorial subject's content; it exists to protect and curate the tribute.

7. Memorial Ownership Disputes

Legacy Vault reserves the right to review memorial ownership in cases of dispute among immediate legal next-of-kin. While Primary Guardians moderate public submissions, immediate family members retain the right to request access, establish co-guardianship upon identity verification, or create a distinct family chapter (a separate, linked Branch Memorial) so that each group has its own space to pay their respects.

8. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

Legacy Vault is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We work hard to preserve your content safely, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amounts you have paid us in the preceding twelve months.

9. Data Security & Privacy

Our platform is built on enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure featuring 256-bit AES encryption at rest, automatic TLS encryption in transit, and multi-region data redundancy. Your family memories are stored safely and isolated from public view based on the strict privacy settings you choose.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify registered users. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
